#000 MANOEUVRES
Title : Manoeuvres Talk Series
Today, we are joined by Christopher Lutterodt-Quarcoo (CL-Q) & Amelia Lyng (AL) to discuss the new talk series ‘Manoeuvres‘.
Q1. WHAT IS MANOEUVRES?
—
AL : Manoeuvres is a talk series where we’re going to review power, progress and change through critical events in humanity — this is where we get to see tactics at work. We’re looking at specific events, their outcome, the actions that led to the outcome, how they were received, and the wider ripple effects they may have had on other aspects, unrelated to the event itself. We’re trying to understand the ‘What’, ‘Why’, and ultimately, ‘How’ in our examination of ‘what happened’.
We’ll be looking specifically at the tactics employed during these events, the ‘hows’. Understanding the ‘what’ and the ‘how’ will lead to a better understanding of the ‘why’, as well as the ‘so what?’. What does this mean? What has this led to?
Q2. WHY MANOEUVRES?
—
CL-Q : In the midst of quarantine, we all saw our timelines explode with status updates of new podcasts, while you're being supportive of your friends — you may want to add this one to your favourites list. We goin’ [to] learn today.
Personally, I had enough of life happening to me and at me, although we can’t control everything, we can prepare and train ourselves to see when it’s coming and brace ourselves or learn from others in how to move with it to our advantage.
Q3. WHAT DO YOU WANT PEOPLE TO LEAVE WITH AFTER EVERY EPISODE?
—
AL : People are going to leave with a better sensitivity to see and appreciate the world around them, particularly how and why things happen the way they do. I know that’s probably a bit optimistic, but realistically, if we take it down a notch, I’d like people to leave with a few more references, a few more perspectives to bring into their world. A sense of understanding, not of everything, but of something. You might not necessarily be able to make sense of what’s happening around you all the time, but at least you'll comprehend one very specific event because of this talk series! [ laughs ] As these episodes build-up, it’ll give [listeners] a nuanced insight of a variety of events, events through which we can better understand our world — and when I say ‘our world’ I don’t just mean history, I mean all the things that make up our societies: sociopolitical institutions, systemic injustices, economic divides, pop-culture trends etc…
Q4. WHO SHOULD WE EXPECT TO HEAR FROM?
—
AL : I don’t know! LOL, we are chasing case studies to learn from. We are connected to a spectrum of people; front line workers, academics, journalists, institutions, entrepreneurs, futurists and activists but the underlying connection is their interest in making sense of how we got here.
CL-Q : Consider each episode a political thriller.
