#008 : Creative Industry Power Shift
Benefactors, funders, gatekeeper, financial backers, granters the list of synonyms goes on.
The relationship dynamic between artists, venues and government has been “consistent“ for generations highlighting extreme examples such as the Medici Family and Leonardo da Vinci of the 15th Century.
But then the great equaliser arrived, Covid-19. All of the venues closed, at times losing up to £1million a week. The creators, for the most part, adapted and leant on the internet to boost their profile accessing a genuinely global audience with financial returns. Here comes the power shift.
The question is, will the power balance reverse when / if the world learns to manage social distancing. Time will tell.
